What Does Refurbished Mean?
In its simplest form, refurbishing means inspecting and repairing a product. When it comes to winches, this means the winch has been previously used and will be in need of some repair. The company carefully inspects it and usually takes the entire thing apart.
The motor is inspected and any seals and gaskets are replaced. The cable wire is usually replaced, as well, unless it was barely used. The gear train will be checked and then cleaned and any chipped or damaged pieces will be replaced.
Any worn pieces to the winch are replaced and any damages are repaired to ensure it is like new. Once they’re satisfied that the machinery is in perfect working order, they will offer it for sale. Usually, the refurbished winches are given a limited warranty, since the company knows that all the parts are in excellent working order.
What to Look Out for in a Refurbished Winch

Just because a winch is used does not mean it is refurbished. You will likely want to buy refurbished instead of simply used, because the quality is often higher. With a second-hand winch, you get what you get and the prices reflect this. The product may be cleaned, but has likely not undergone any repairs.
You’ll also want to check the prices for refurbished winches. These will usually be slightly higher but come with a guarantee. Any problems will have been eliminated and you will usually get several years of great use out of the machine, if not longer. This obviously comes at a cost, but it is still less than buying a new winch.
