Things To Have With You
When winching a vehicle, you’re going to need the right accessories to complete the job. Alone, a winch is a simple tool, but with the right attachments it can be used for a variety of applications. Some key accessories to consider having with you are:
- Shackles – A safe means of connecting looped cables, snatch blocks and straps
- Gloves – A safety measure, for handling the metal wire
- Hook Strap – Used to hold the hook and keep the wire away from your fingers
- Snatch Block – Used properly it can improve the pulling power of your winch
- Tow Hooks – They provide a secure attachment for wire hooks and straps
Secure Vehicle Recovery Winch Instructions
These are our key instructions to help you recover or tow a vehicle safely and securely.
Connect Your Remote Control
When your winch is not in use you should always disconnect the remote control, and have it kept away from the winch and cable. But, first things first, connect your remote control to your winch!
Disengage The Clutch Function
To allow free spooling of the winch drum, and conserve battery power, disengage the clutch function. Rotate the clutch 90 degrees anti-clockwise. Never disengage the clutch if the wire cable is under load capacity.
Pull The Wire To The Vehicle Being Towed
Pull your wire cable to the vehicle being towed, but remember to keep it under tension. Pull out enough wire to anchor the vehicle being towed.
Engage The Clutch
Engage the clutch function by rotating the handle clockwise 90 degrees, locking it in place. Do NOT, however, engage the clutch while the drum is rotating.
Secure The Cable To The Anchor Point
Once you’ve selected a safe and secure anchor point, attach the cable to the vehicle. Before you start winching, ensure that the cable is wound around the drum evenly, to mitigate any issues when towing the vehicle.
And Away You Go
You can begin winching once you’ve safely secured your vehicle and ensured that the cable is evenly wound around the drum. Start slowly and steadily to ensure the best chance of successfully recovering the vehicle.
