A heavy duty engine hoist is a specialist piece of equipment that has been designed to carefully raise and lower bulky items. Usually, they are used to lift vehicle engines in and out of place, allowing for repairs or upgrades to be completed. They can be manually operated or electric, where some will function hands-free with the help of a motor.
Deep Cleaning
A thorough clean of your engine hoist should be carried out at regular intervals, where you may wish to do this alongside your annual service. The equipment will need to be disassembled if necessary, then a cleaning solution can be applied to remove dirt and grease.
Once this has had time to get to work, the hoist should be rinsed thoroughly, whilst taking care to limit water exposure to any hydraulic parts. The equipment must then be dried carefully to prevent rust.
Regular Maintenance
In addition to cleaning your engine hoist, it is also important to carry out regular maintenance tasks to prevent significant malfunctions. These can be completed before every use, to ensure that the equipment is safe to use.
Your maintenance schedule will vary depending on your specific model, but as standard you may wish to inspect your hydraulic fluid levels, apply a machine oil to your hoist chain, or tighten up your frame bolts.
Careful Storage
Meeting the storage requirements of your heavy duty engine hoist can also help to ensure that your machinery remains in top condition. Wherever possible, you should store your hoist in a dry, well-covered area to protect it from the elements, helping to prevent rust and freeze-thaw damage.
Additionally, you may wish to cover your hoist with a tarp or purpose-made sheet to protect it from dust, especially if your work-site is particularly prone to airborne pollutants. The engine hoist should also be placed in a stable position when not in use to limit the risk of toppling within your storage area.
